One extended voyage around Australia is being halted in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a isolated island.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The vessel departed without her and came back several hours later after the personnel became aware the lady was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission found her remains the next day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, together with investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer said that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the journey had been called off due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he mentioned that guests would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the passengers via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the vessel.

The representative said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.
